Love: A Feeling or Emotion?

written by

IONNA

"Feeling: An emotional state or reaction. Emotion: a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others"

We all have this deep need to be seen, heard, and loved. Ultimately, we all have a need to be acknowledged and appre ciated by the ones that we love most. Whether we are conscious of it or not, this validation is one of our most vulnerable desires...beyond our romantic partners. Someone close to us in our lives who possesses those qualities that make us feel safe, understood, and accepted.

It is the space that allows us to feel comfortable to explore our most authentic full selves; and therefore radiate, and explore who we are, and who we want to become. To be seen on a level of soul understanding without feeling like we need to safeguard or censor our spectrum of expression. Our lives consist of many phases and we are always evolving.

Being with someone who can allow you the space and freedom to explore that, and also commit to the version of you when you first met. But what does this type of love and vulnerability cost? What are you willing to trade off for a relationship that allows you the space and freedom to explore that? Are we creatures of circumstance or are we capable of our decisions and feelings staying the same, beyond our situations? Is love something that changes with circumstance or is it a bond beyond?

So many questions, a concept that is so simple; to love, but what does it really mean? Relationships by no means are “easy” they require your time,

etiquette, attention, and effort. Because love without roots of communication, trust and respect is maybe just a feeling...and not a concrete basis for an intelligent or fruitful emotional relationship.

When we think of an ALPHA type of person, I don’t think we necessarily think of someone who takes a back seat. Initially we have a very specific idea of a dominant presence. But sometimes to lead, we are required to sit in silence and be still. Hold action by being observatory and pivoting our way through life’s trials and tribulations in an objective and compassionate way. Someone once told me wisdom comes with experience. Those who take chances in life and surrender their full vulnerability, will be able to access universal truths and lessons others will not just based on unwillingness to be open.

The conversation needs to shift to the commitment you have to yourself and what that in turn translates to when you do have a partner in your life.

Selfishness. My biggest lesson of 2021. It is necessary to be selfish in order to act selflessly for those around you.

You must put your oxygen mask on first before helping others on that airplane. If it’s going down, you are capa- ble of helping others by helping yourself first. Many people mistaken self-care and boundaries, which us why a lot fo us find ourselves burnt out, unhappy, misunderstood and situations that

are not so favourable from our partners. It all stems with ourselves. Love is both a feeling and an emotion. Just depends on what level and type of relationship you meet yourself at to have that ALPHA within yourself and that energy mirror with your future partner.
