Empowering Love: DJ Envy and Gia Casey's Journey in Family, Business, and Beyond

written by

Raashaun “DJ Envy” and Gia Casey have spent more than two decades building a layered relationship that has been tested in both public and private.

Together, the Casey's, as they are called, have raised six children, built multiple businesses, and turned their marriage into one of hip-hop’s most recognizable family brands.

But, behind the heavily selective appearances, their approach to love and partnership is grounded in something more practical concepts — communication, accountability, and growth.

“That's the first thing in our family, of course, love, but the most important thing is to look out for each other.”

When Alpha Magazine sat down with the Caseys, it was clear they were not interested in playing roles. Their dynamic is a mix of honesty and humor, sometimes sharp, sometimes soft. It’s the same energy that’s made their podcast, The Casey Crew, a success a space where they talk openly about marriage, parenting, infidelity, and mental health.

“Every reaction I still want from her, I still get,” Envy says, laughing as Gia reacts to one of his stories. A mix of familiarity and playfulness is just a part of their rhythm.

“We are very competitive,” Envy adds, “The type of couple that no matter what it is, we are competitive. If it's monopoly, we are not going to stop until somebody's crying.”

In many ways, their show is clear proof they’ve moved past a simple, curated image and onto something that feels more relatable.

“Having self-esteem and self-worth isn’t something you can read a book and develop,” Gia says. “It takes a very long time. I was raised by a wonderful set of parents, particularly my mother. She was an insurmountable example.”

Gia talks about being raised in a home that prioritized affirmation and emotional security. “Years of being told that you’re amazing, that you’re smart, that you’re beautiful, it comes from within,” she says.

“But, if you have a woman who wasn’t poured into that way, then insecurity starts to brew. To break those cycles, it takes education, introspection, therapy and redefining what beauty even means. Because beauty isn’t just physical. It’s your whole self.”

Her approach to parenting comes from that same foundation. “I look for opportunities to compliment my kids,” she says. “But they’re never fake compliments. I make it my business to identify something real so they understand what it feels like to be seen.”

Their conversations flow easily, even when the topics are more serious. They’re not afraid to mix reflection with humor. “She’ll come to the gym with me and eat ice cream while I’m working out,” Envy says, shaking his head. Gia laughs. “It’s true,” she admits. “Sometimes it’s ice cream for breakfast. Sometimes it’s steak. I do what makes me happy.”

A careful balance of discipline and ease is centered at the core of their relationship. They’ve learned how to give each other space without drifting apart.

For Envy, the familial mission also extends community. “We wanted to build something positive that reflects our lifestyle — taking care of yourself, being intentional,” he says.

When asked what stands out about Alpha Magazine, Envy doesn’t hesitate. “First and foremost, it’s Black-owned,” he says. “I’m rooting for everybody Black. They take pride in putting out great work. It’s not fast-food media, it’s quality.”

The shared focus on representation and integrity connects the couple’s work to ALPHA’s broader mission: celebrating Black excellence with nuance over stereotype.

At this point in their careers, DJ Envy and Gia Casey are less interested in image and more invested in impact. They’ve built a family and a platform that reflect who they are, not just as a couple, but as individuals who keep learning in real time and discovering what it means to build a lasting legacy.

“We do understand that this life is short, so whatever that our kids want to do or whatever my wife wants to do or I want to do, we just want to make sure that we remain happy…you get so many people that are millionaires and billionaires and hate each other, hate their life, but for us, we want to make sure that regardless of what our kids do, they're happy.”

Their story isn’t about perfection or performance. It’s about two people who’ve chosen to grow together, to turn lessons into practice, and to build something sustainable amidst a culture that doesn’t always rewards patience.

For the Caseys, a partnership is more than grand gestures or social media milestones. It’s also about showing up, staying consistent, and leading with intention, every single day.
