5 Ways to Protect Your Position in Empowerment

written by

JASMINE LYLE

When we think about the word, 'empowerment', many of us coin it as some sort of journey toward the ultimate goal of control, strength, courage, confidence, autonomoy, onwership, self-heroism. In order to embody the inspirational and refined state of being empowered - it's important to practice how to firm your stance once you get there.

1

Allow and accept empowering energy to flor freely. The connection with oneself as well as the transactional relationship with others is crucial. Recognizing thoughts and behaviours as they arise, and having a game plan for self-control, will help you win every time. Interactively, focus on the flow of verbal and non-verbal communica- tion as ‘in, out and through’ your mind and body – ver- sus a stagnant process. There is much to be gained and much to be left behind with both self-talk and interper- sonal dialogue.

2

Avoid false empowerment. The best way to sabotage your empowerment journey is to act like you’re entirely self-sufficient and you’ve got it all figured out. Be vul- nerable. Introspect frequently and accept those beauti- ful flaws and weaknesses that make you, well - uniquely you. Without the act of self-acceptance, true strength embodied by empowerment is diminished.

3

Recognize an attack to your empowerment. Use your intuition to identify negatively-charged energy as a threat toward your authenticity. These types of experi- ences should be evaluated as out-of-body as opposed to an inward turmoil. Similar to the first strategy, let the experience flow, but be aware of any underlying intent. You know where you stand – don’t allow the person who is less self-familiar to disrupt your posture.

4

Realize why your empowerment may be attacked. It may be helpful at times to reflect on past encounters that left a lingering self of discomfort or upset. Keep this reminder handy: being empowered will set you apart from those who operate on an alternate wavelength. Realize the potential battle with their own ego (and lack of self-actualization), forgive and more forward. Being caught up in this resistive mindset is often caused by fear. Oftentimes, we as humans fear the unknown and regress into our comfort. Those stuck in their ego find it hard to embody empowerment for both themselves, as well as for others.

5

Reside in self-care and solitude when necessary. Whether you’re retreating to a brief moment of seclusion or unplugging for an entire evening – it is important to practice intentional self-care strategies (such as: deep and regulated breathing, meditation, relaxation). Unhindered attention to ones deeper (often suppressed) mental and emotional needs is vital for rejuvenation both internally and interactively with others. Empowerment includes the combination of peace and control. It’s important to de- toxify and reset.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • 1. Be mindful of past trauma and let those memories inform future decisions.
  • 2. Understand that others may observe your transformation and try to pull you away from achieving your goals.
  • 3. Make it your mission everyday to chip away at a weakness in your focus.
